
Honghaizi, also known as Jia Gacuo, is a plateau lake along Provincial Highway S434. Why is it called the “Lake for Passers – by”? Because it lies quietly by the roadside not far from the loop from Zhonggu Village to Kangding Airport. It is at an altitude of about 4,200 meters and is surrounded by towering snow – capped mountains. The lake surface is like a mirror, reflecting the blue sky, white clouds, and the lush mountains. It is known as the “Pearl of the Grassland” and is regarded as one of the hidden gems in western Sichuan. Honghaizi is surrounded by majestic snow – capped mountains. Especially, the Xuefeng of Bijiashan (Bijia Mountain Peak) is clearly visible on sunny days. When the sunset glow shines on the Xuefeng of Bijiashan and is refracted onto the lake surface, beautiful red rays of light are formed, dyeing the entire lake. In spring and summer, the grass is green and wildflowers are in full bloom. In autumn and winter, the snow covers everything, and the lake is veiled in a light mist, creating a dream – like scene. The snow – capped mountains are magnificent, and the lake is gentle and beautiful. Picnicking and camping by the lakeside, with the romantic swing under the snow – capped mountains and prayer flags fluttering in the wind, it’s a time of unrestrained and leisurely youth.
