
Yala Snow Mountain is located at the junction of Kangding, Daofu and Danba counties in Ganzi, Sichuan. With an altitude of 5,884 meters, its peak is covered with snow all year round. It is a famous sacred mountain in the Khampa region, and the Yala River originates from here. Also known as Yala Snow Mountain or Yala Sacred Mountain, it is located at the junction of the three counties mentioned above and is the first snow – capped mountain crossed by the Sichuan – Tibet Tea – Horse Ancient Road. It is covered with snow and glaciers all year round, surrounded by scattered lakes, numerous hot springs, vast forests and dotted meadows. Its full name in Tibetan is “Shaxue Yalagabo” (meaning the White Yak Mountain in the East), and it is one of the four sacred mountains in the Tibetan area as recorded in “The Epic of King Gesar”. The Tibetan ancient book “The Way to Liberation in the Records of Sacred Mountains” calls it the “Second Shambhala”. “Yala” means “giving” in Tibetan. That is, Yala Snow Mountain is a sacred mountain representing giving and dedication. It is the patron saint of the Khampa Tibetan area and a holy place for lamas of all dynasties to practice. For thousands of years, countless eminent monks and great masters have practiced in seclusion in the sacred mountain, leaving behind many mysterious seclusion caves. Most of the hot springs at the foot of the snow – capped mountain are called “Beiluzhana”, which means “hidden hot springs”. It is said that if one bathes in these divine springs, the karmic obstacles on the body can be quickly eliminated. The Yala Snow Mountain area has a wide variety of plant species, with a rich collection of rare and endemic plants. There are more than 600 species of higher plants and more than 200 species of wild animals. There is also a lake named Yalayoucuo near Yala Snow Mountain. It is a lake with an area of about one square kilometer, located at the foot of Yala Snow Mountain. The meltwater from the glaciers on the mountain converges into a stream that passes through rocks, meadows, rhododendron forests and pine trees, forming a waterfall more than 60 meters high that rushes into the lake from the cliff on the mountain, presenting a spectacular scene. The lake is surrounded by a large number of pine trees. The color of the lake water ranges from light yellow, light green, lake – green, blue to dark blue from the lakeside to the center of the lake.
