Xianshi Ancient Town is located 11 kilometers southeast outside the urban area of Zigong City, Sichuan Province.
It lies on the bank of the Fuxi River and has the reputation of being a “specimen of the ancient town charm in southern Sichuan”.
It is an important carrier for inheriting and displaying the salt culture of Sichuan and the folk customs of southern Sichuan.
It is now a national AAAA-level tourist scenic area.
It is open all year round and free of charge, and is suitable for visiting in all four seasons.

Although the ancient town is not large in size, it has characteristic ancient buildings such as “four streets, four gates, five temples, one ancestral hall and three wharves” as well as well-preserved ancient cultural relics, which are well worth visiting and appreciating. Walking along the crisscrossing streets, you can experience the lively atmosphere of the quaint residential houses.

The Chen Family Ancestral Hall has a profound historical and cultural heritage. It was built in the first year of Tongzhi’s reign in the Qing Dynasty (1862). With a layout in the shape of a quadrangle, it covers an area of more than 1,500 square meters. It not only presents the style of Western architecture but also embodies the charm of folk houses in southern Sichuan. It not only demonstrates the wealth and status of wealthy salt merchants but also reflects the inclusive and open-minded attitude of the salt merchants in Zigong.

The Jinqiao Temple was also built in the Qing Dynasty and has been perfectly preserved. It extends downward along the height of the mountain. At a higher point, a street runs across the temple and connects with other flagstone alleys. Up to now, the incense burning and worship here have continued without interruption. There are now halls such as the Mahavira Hall, the Guanyin Hall, and the Jialan Hall. In the Guanyin Hall, there are statues like the Thousand-Handed Guanyin.

Along the Fuxi River, you can take a pleasure boat or choose a teahouse to drink tea, chat, and play mahjong, experiencing the local urban life and entertainment
